"where 21st Century learning happens..."

Original Works 2020: Self-Directed Drawing Activities

Below you will find links to K-4th grade directed drawing activities for our Original Works projects. In our lessons this week, we discussed the importance of independently exploring these different artmaking videos to find the design students liked the best. We also discussed that artists can also craft their own ideas from their imagination or from being inspired by the drawing activities found here.
Students should come to art next week, September 29th - October 1st, with a plan of what they would like to draw for their Original Works design so that we can use our class time for feedback, tips and techniques for adding color to complete their projects. These videos will be available on my website, my learning homepage and in our class channels, Monday, September 28th. Please share these with students ahead of time. The more time students have to practice the better their finished work will be!!

Where’s 5th grade?!?!  Fifth grade students were directed to work on their cartoon self-portrait for their design, but were also encouraged to check out the other design ideas and choose which one they were most interested in. Because each self-portrait is unique to the student, there is not a directed drawing video to accompany their project. However, students interested in cartooning can explore the resource: http://everyonecandraw.net/
I look forward to seeing your amazing artwork!!

In Miss England's Art Class we learn:

PictureWinter Park, Colorado
Art is the medium for our lives; it surrounds us everywhere in the world and through a rich understanding of that world comes the foundation of art education.  Within an elementary classroom, lessons in art should be created with artistic as well as academic intent to ensure critical development between eastern and western hemispheres of the brain.  This ability to create connection across left and right-brained boundaries is what I believe to be the root of creative enterprise.

It is my goal that everyone understands how important art is and why we study art.  Art began as a simple need to tell a story—or share an idea.  Art has since allowed us to express ourselves through our language, visual imagery, song, dance, structure and various other media while capturing our history and cataloging our cultures.

"The beauty of art is its bounds are infinite as it encompasses everything we can see and all that we can only imagine seeing."

September 2015: This past summer I was able to travel to Berlin, Germany to participate in a 2-week cultural exchange with our partners at the JFK School.  Through the rich learning experiences provided by our guides in Germany, I was inspired to create a series of projects reflective of my trip to share with my students.
