Meet Miss England

Miss England / "Miss.e"

When I was a kid, I wanted to be a astronaut...at about 13, I decided I'd be an engineer...and then at 17, I resolved to become a research scientist--organic medicine.
But, I became a teacher at the behest of my college roommate, who, after hearing me lament about my science classes being "less than interesting," suggested from my listed interests--art, reading, writing, making things, and learning about stuff that interested me-- that I'd make a great teacher.  If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have responded with such assurance that she was wrong, but I nonetheless followed her advice and haven't questioned her suggestion since.  My passions for education stem from the love of learning I have always possessed; I remain to be a naturally curious and inquisitive individual, full of wonder and beckoning new discoveries, much like I was in my childhood.  I never imagined I'd be a teacher, or an artist, let alone an art teacher, and how I became an art teacher is a design I couldn't have crafted in my own wild imagination.  Art has always been a passion; I knew how to handle a crayon before I held a pencil, but when I did learn how to write, it quickly became a time-consuming interest.  Combining my personal interests with my background in Elementary Education is at the heart of how I teach.  I believe it's important students learn to use art as a vehicle for learning about how to reflectively interact with and creatively respond to their world(s).

"Life in A School Bus"
January 2019

On October 11, 2017 I found Esmeralda, a 35ft retired bus from the Aurora Public School District fleet and incidentally bus 1011.  Over the next 14 months, I sold my home in Fort Collins and found amazing people to help extrapolate from my imagination the ideas I'd longed to live by and create for me a custom dream home on wheels.  Living tiny has always appealed to me and the idea of conscious consumption is a foundational element of my instruction practices.  I have always advocated for a world that was aware of the impacts its actions have on the environment that sustains the very life people often take advantage of being given.  This lifestyle begs for participation and the activity of daily life has shifted greatly from the depressingly mundane to the divinely magical as I craft a new pathway for the adventures that await.

 Peru, Summer 2017

I love to travel!!  This past summer I spent a month in Peru, exploring the diverse terrain across the country.  The highlight of my trip was trekking 47km over 4 days along the Inca Trail into Machu Picchu City and to the top of Huayna Picchu.
